Minimalism, or Everything You Can Hide

Minimalism style is the creation of an interior with a minimum number of objects that support the functionality of each room. To achieve simplicity, it is necessary to carry out complex preparation. But the result is worth it.

Minimalism: Key Emphasis

The characteristic conditions of minimalism can be achieved if:

  • redevelop and integrate space;
  • use close shades and similar textures;
  • consider each element of the interior in terms of functionality
    use decorative elements in the style and color range of the interior (photo frames, vases, books, floor lamps or sconces);
  • hide structural elements: cornices (hide in a niche in the ceiling), skirting boards (use thin or hidden), platbands (use flush mounted doors), electrical fittings (choose sockets, switches in a minimalist style).

Finishing materials and furniture

The style of minimalism dictates the use of natural finishing materials: even variants with a rough texture, intentionally not processed, are allowed. This is wood, brick, plaster, concrete. The ceiling is plain without multilevel piles. The floor covering can also be plain or with an ornament.
As for furniture, there is one piece of advice: hide everything that is possible. Any recesses can be used to organize storage, but the structures must be hidden. A few tips:

  • upholstered furniture – without picking, with a minimum and due to the number of seams;
  • the color of the furniture matches the ceiling and walls;
  • built-in furniture handles for visual space saving;
  • neutral blind facades;
  • bedside tables, cabinets and chests of drawers are tied in height or width to other elements of the interior, so that their location is logical;
  • hidden faucets, shower racks and consoles in the bathroom.

You need to hide the equipment: for minimalism, everything that can be built in can be “drowned” in a wall, niche or furniture. She should not attract attention.

Light and color

Minimalism favors bright rooms. Therefore, you need to pay attention to natural and artificial lighting. Lamps – only built-in (spot). You can make the necessary accents using the LED backlight. It is better to refuse heavy chandeliers and elaborate sconces.
The main color of minimalism is white, complemented by pastel and beige tones. You can make the interior monophonic by adding only a few bright shades.
Thoughtfulness, accuracy, practicality are the key requirements for interior design in a minimalist style. You can take into account all the subtleties if you develop a design project for a specific type of object, taking into account its individual characteristics.
